Australia's ASX Begins Publishing some Company Announcements but Outage Remains, Website Shows
ASX maintains trading despite a technical fault halting market-sensitive announcements and causing trading halts for several companies, with the S&P/ASX 200 up 7.5 points.
- On Monday, the Australian Securities Exchange opened for trading despite a technical problem halting company announcement publication at 9am AEDT, with the S&P/ASX 200 up 7.5 points to 8621.6 as ASX investigates an error message on its website.
- ASX said it was investigating an announcement-publishing problem, noting futures trading was halted for hours at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange due to a CyrusOne data centre outage, while ASIC is engaging with ASX.
- Major miners advanced in early trade with BHP up 0.6%, Rio Tinto 0.3% and Fortescue 0.2%, while Treasury Wine Estates fell 4.1% and Metcash reported a 0.3% interim profit rise to $142.2 million.
- Several companies were placed in trading halts as individual listed companies awaited price-sensitive releases, Australian Securities and Investments Commission said it is "aware of issues" and engaging with ASX, and just shy of 30 announcements appeared after the more than three hour gap.
- Ahead of the December 10 Federal Reserve meeting, traders wager a nearly 87 per cent chance of a rate cut, while Wall Street edges higher and ASX announcement flow returns, highlighting market sensitivity.
