Astronomers Claim 3I/ATLAS Isn't Natural After Detecting Industrial Chemicals In Its Plume
A new paper based on spectroscopic data from the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) has dropped a bombshell: the interstellar object known as 3I/ATLAS is leaking nickel without iron into space. That may not sound shocking at first, but [...] The post Astronomers Claim 3I/ATLAS Isn’t Natural After Detecting Industrial Chemicals In Its Plume appeared first on The People's Voice.
The newly sighted interstellar object 3I/ATLAS only crosses our solar system, but could still reveal a lot about the dynamics of foreign celestial bodies.
VLT Observations Of Interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS II. From quiescence To Glow: Dramatic Rise Of Ni I Emission And Incipient CN Outgassing At Large Heliocentric Distances - Astrobiology
We report VLT spectroscopy of the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS (C/2025 N1) from rh≃4.4 to 2.85 au using X-shooter (300-550 nm, R≃3000) and UVES (optical, R≃35k−80k). The coma is dust-dominated with a fairly constant red optical continuum slope (∼21-22\%/1000Å). At rh≃3.17 au we derive 3σ limits of Q(OH)
3I-Atlas Anomalies Grow: Nickel Outgassing Stuns Scientists
The discovery of 3I/ATLAS, the third confirmed interstellar object to pass through our Solar System, has rapidly developed into one of the most extraordinary astronomical events of recent decades. Identified in July 2025 by the Asteroid Terrestrial-Impact Last Alert System survey, it was immediately recognized as a body of interstellar origin, arriving from beyond the […] The post 3I-Atlas Anomalies Grow: Nickel Outgassing Stuns Scientists appea…
It has been detected that the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS that crosses at great speed our Solar System and emits a metal different from any other observed in natural comets. The Very Large Telescope (VLT) of Chile detected an unusual column of nickel coming from the object, known as 3I/ATLAS. Unlike natural comets, [...]
