Astronaut Jeremy Hansen says he was surprised by Canadians’ support for Artemis II
Hansen said the crew felt overwhelming Canadian support after the 10-day lunar mission and told 300 people about the trip.
On Wednesday, Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen spoke to 300 people at Halifax Central Library about his Artemis mission, with tickets selling out in under a minute.
During the 10-day Artemis mission, Hansen and his crew traveled 406,771 kilometres from Earth at speeds reaching approximately 47,000 kilometres per hour before splashdown.
Hansen told the crowd, "Humanity does want to do positive things and can find a lot of joy in taking on these big challenges together, creating versus destroying."
On the same Wednesday, Maritime Launch Services successfully launched The Barracuda suborbital vehicle from Spaceport Nova Scotia, advancing Canada's near-space research capabilities.
Ottawa is targeting 2028 for domestic launch capability, supported by $200 million in federal funding announced in March to develop Spaceport Nova Scotia infrastructure.
