Aspen’s old skis find new purpose with recycling program

There’s still time to give last season’s skis a new lease on life.  Through May 16, the city of Aspen is accepting old ski and snowboard equipment at the Rio Grande Recycle Center in an effort to curb the amount of gear that ends up in the Pitkin County landfill each spring.  With multiple layers of plastic, metal and epoxy, skis and snowboards are difficult to break down with standard recycling practices.
