The company Yuka, associated with the associations Foodwatch and Ligue contre le Cancer, is calling for a ban on the sweetener. An approach that leaves learned societies skeptical.
Since its introduction in the 1970s, the sweetener has been debated about its carcinogenic potential.
On Tuesday 4 February, the French nutrition application, the NGO and the French association launched a joint European petition calling for the ban of aspartame, a sweetening sweetener that is controversial because it is possibly dangerous for health.
“We hope for a million signatures at least,” says the co-founder and director of Yuka on France Inter. Aspartame is an additive classified as “possible carcinogenic to humans” by the World Health Organization (WHO).
On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the League Against Cancer, Foodwatch and Yuka are calling for a ban on sweeteners.
