Asda Strikes Deal with Ocado to Upgrade Online Shopping
The retailer said Ocado’s Smart Platform will help process more than 70 million orders a year and expand delivery slot availability.
Asda will partner with Ocado Group to overhaul its online grocery service, with technology deployment beginning in 2027 and initial upgrades to the retailer's website and online shopping experience.
Executive Chairman Allan Leighton is leading a major turnaround plan at Asda after returning to the retailer in late 2024. In March, he said the group still had "plenty to do" to improve its fortunes.
Ocado's Smart Platform technology will be deployed across Asda's website, app, and in-store picking operations, leveraging a system processing more than 70 million orders annually across more than 1,000 grocery stores globally.
Rapid delivery partners including Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats will use Ocado's technology for order picking, though Asda will retain full control of its customer offer, pricing, and online operations.
Tim Steiner, chief executive of Ocado Group, stated that the firm is "delighted" that Asda has chosen them to support the next phase of their online growth.
