As Trop Preps for World Series, What's Going on with Rays New Stadium?
- On Monday, a sellout crowd of more than 40,000 fans will welcome the Tampa Bay Rays back to Tropicana Field for Game 3 of the World Series, trailing the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0.
- After Hurricane Milton shredded the roof on Oct. 9, 2024, the Rays spent nearly $60 million to rebuild the stadium before returning 18 months later to start this season.
- Tropicana Field features a 10,000-gallon touch tank called the "Cownose Clubhouse" where fans can touch stingrays; Brewers reliever Aaron Ashby said, "They have stingrays in the outfield here? I didn't know that."
- During the renovation, real estate developer Patrick Zalupski led a group that purchased the Rays and secured county approval for a $2.3 billion project featuring their "forever home," scheduled to open in 2029.
- Despite finishing 28th in attendance at 1.4 million, the Rays tied for the best home record at 55-26, and second baseman Richie Palacios said Sunday, "It's going to be exciting to go out there and put on a show for our fans.
