As Idaho’s nursing homes face ‘challenges,’ state’s largest operator draws fines

An Idaho Statesman review of data released by CMS alongside hundreds of pages of inspection reports and letters from regulators found that, as Idaho has worked to fill a yearslong backlog of nursing home inspections, regulators often resorted to financial penalties when faced with troubled homes. In all, 26 of Idaho’s 80 nursing homes have been fined over the past three years, records show, and they have paid more than $1.1 million together. At the forefront of that has been Cascadia Healthcare, an Eagle-based private company that is Idaho’s largest operator of nursing homes. Ten of the 26 nursing homes fined in Idaho are owned by Cascadia, which operates 25 nursing homes across the state.
