More than 1,300 Encore Boston Harbor Workers Authorize Strike as Contract Deadline Nears
Unions say 1,006 workers backed the move after months of stalled talks over wages, job security and health care benefits.
Roughly 1,350 members of UNITE HERE Local 26 and Teamsters Local 25 voted Thursday to authorize a strike at Encore Boston Harbor in Everett after months of stalled contract negotiations with Wynn Resorts.
Employees are pushing for a $10 wage increase over three years for non-tipped staff and $5 for tipped workers, while Wynn Resorts is offering increases less than half the requested rate, according to unions.
The casino brought in nearly $847 million in 2025 revenue, yet Carlos Aramayo, President of UNITE HERE Local 26, criticized management for offering terms "worse than a Hampton Inn's."
Teamsters Local 25 maintains a strike defense fund with about $365 million, while a Wynn Resorts spokesperson stated the company was "disappointed" by the vote, claiming their proposal is "grounded in financial reality."
With the current contract expiring Monday, August 31, union members could walk off the job at any time after that date, though leadership has not announced a specific strike timeline.
