Chatham Moves to Adopt New Rules over Data Centers

Chatham County halts new data centers and crypto mining for 12 months to study water and energy impacts amid rising AI demand, officials said.

The Chatham County Board of Commissioners voted on Wednesday, Feb. 11 to approve a one-year moratorium on the permitting of data centers, data processing facilities and cryptocurrency mining operations in the unincorporated areas of Chatham County.
