French businesses, events to close with more weekend protests expected
Several satellite fairs will remain open, with some adjusting hours, as organizers weigh safety concerns and a weekend of planned protests.
Art Basel Paris organizers announced on Friday the fair will conclude today, canceling Saturday and Sunday programming. The decision was made 'in the interest of safeguarding our visitors, exhibitors, partners, staff, and artworks.'
Following reports of planned protests in Paris this weekend, security concerns intensified. Rioters looted stores in Paris, Milan, and other European cities during demonstrations last weekend, prompting precautionary measures.
While Art Basel Paris closes, several satellite fairs plan to remain open through the weekend. Asia NOW and Paris Internationale confirmed operations as scheduled, while OFFSCREEN exhibitors received official confirmation of continued operations through Sunday.
Post-Fair, located in the Marais, adjusted Saturday hours to open at 10 a.m. and close at 1 p.m. Beauty brand Glow Recipe canceled its October 24 and 25 pop-up, citing, 'The safety of our community, our team, and everyone involved will always come first.'
Organizers continue monitoring the evolving social and political context in real time. Institutions remain cautious, with some requiring government ID for Friday entry to ensure security of guests and collections.
