Sonilo Partners with Shutterstock to Build the Gold Standard in Licensed AI Music - Shutterstock (NYSE:SS
The partnership gives Sonilo access to rights-cleared music data and supports commercially safe AI workflows, while Shutterstock says infringement cases against AI companies rose more than 130% in 2025.
On Monday, Sonilo announced a strategic partnership with Shutterstock to license its music catalog for AI model training, marking Shutterstock's first-ever collaboration with a video-to-music platform.
Infringement cases filed against AI companies surged by more than 130% year over year by 2025, as many platforms trained on unlicensed content without compensating artists.
Powered by its proprietary Sonilo v1.0 model, the platform reads video footage to understand pacing and emotional arc, generating production-ready soundtracks cleared for commercial use without text prompts.
CEO Shawn Song stated, "Music has always been the last unsolved layer of video creation," emphasizing artist compensation, while Shutterstock Vice President Jessica April noted the partnership reflects demand for "responsibly sourced training data."
The platform launched this month as a native node inside ComfyUI, the open-source workflow tool used by creators worldwide, with Sonilo also available via API for video tools and further integrations planned this year.
