The Weather Prediction Center raised flood risk to level 3 of 4 for parts of the region as rainfall totals could exceed 1 foot.
Post-Tropical Arthur, the first named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, brought heavy rain and flooding to Louisiana after forming off the Texas coast on Wednesday.
Rainfall totals reached 8.78 inches in Hattiesburg, MS, and 8.69 inches in New Orleans, LA, with some areas receiving over 20 inches across the Deep South.
The Weather Prediction Center upgraded the flash flood risk to a level three out of four for red-highlighted areas, a level two for the New Orleans metro, and a level one for the Bayou Parishes.
Chief Meteorologist Scot Pilie said while Friday night offers brief relief, residents should monitor continued localized flash flood risk as storms develop Friday afternoon into evening.
Louisiana faces another flash flood threat Saturday as storms return, while the first heat advisory of the year has been issued due to heat indices of 105 to 110 degrees.
