Artemis II Astronauts Make Long-Distance Call to the Space Station

- Astronaut Christina Koch reconnected with spacewalking partner Jessica Meir 230,000 miles apart, seven years after their groundbreaking all-female spacewalk in 2019 outside the orbiting lab.
- By late Tuesday, the crew had beamed back more than 50 gigabytes of data, including an Earthset photo reminiscent of Apollo 8, with Mission Control's lead lunar scientist Kelsey Young calling the images inspirational.
- NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman confirmed minor plumbing issues with the Orion capsule's toilet, though the mission has otherwise proceeded well as the crew aims for Friday splashdown off the San Diego coast.
- The test flight sets the stage for next year's Artemis III lunar lander docking demo in Earth orbit, while Artemis IV is scheduled for 2028 to land astronauts near the lunar south pole.
