Arsenal Permanently Sign Hincapie After Season on Loan From Leverkusen
Arsenal paid around £35 million to keep the Ecuador defender after 39 appearances and a title-winning season, with a contract understood to run until 2031.
On Thursday, Arsenal confirmed the permanent signing of defender Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen, activating a clause to secure his long-term future at the Emirates Stadium.
The 24-year Ecuadorian international initially joined the Gunners on loan last summer, proving pivotal during the club's Premier League-winning campaign with 39 appearances across all competitions.
Arsenal paid around £35 million for the versatile defender, who committed to the club until 2031, marking the team's first summer acquisition following last year's expenditure of over £250 million.
Currently representing Ecuador at the World Cup, Hincapie will turn his focus back to cementing his starting role under manager Mikel Arteta following the tournament.
Despite competition from Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelly, Hincapie ended his maiden campaign in English football as the first-choice left-back, starting crucial matches against Manchester City and Burnley.
