Arsenal Hopeful of Signing Julian Alvarez
Arsenal are leading the chase for Julián Álvarez, with Atlético Madrid open only to an overseas sale and a possible swap involving Viktor Gyökeres.
Arsenal is the strongest contender to sign 26-year-old Julián Álvarez, with the Gunners reportedly prepared to offer a player-plus-cash deal to secure the striker from Atlético Madrid.
Atlético Madrid refused to sell to domestic rival Barcelona, leaving the door open for Arsenal to pursue the Argentine forward despite his stated preference for the Catalan club.
To facilitate the transfer, Arsenal is "willing" to include forward Viktor Gyökeres in a deal valued at £51.7m, providing Atlético an immediate replacement option.
Sporting director Andrea Berta targets Álvarez to replace Gyökeres, who scored 21 goals in 55 appearances, aiming to improve Arsenal's attacking technical quality.
Complications remain as Álvarez is under contract for another four years, and reports suggest a fee exceeding £100 million may be required to finalize the move.
The poker around Julian Alvarez continues: Now Arsenal is also supposed to be interested in the Argentinian striker. Londoners seem to be hoping for Atlético's veto to move to Barcelona.
