- Selected firms including Radiant Industries and Antares Nuclear will deploy reactors at Fort Bragg, Fort Campbell, Fort Hood, Fort Benning, and Fort Drum, with each unit generating between 1 and 20 megawatts.
- Designed for rapid deployment, the factory-built facilities can power up within 48 hours of arrival. "This will be the spear tip," said Jeff Waksman, principal deputy assistant secretary of the Army for installations, energy and environment.
- While the Army will license these reactors, officials intend for the technology to transition to the commercial market later. The Army is coordinating with the Energy Department on radioactive waste disposal, with no long-term storage planned on-site.
