Arkansas Unveils New App Aimed at Protecting Food Stamp Recipients From Scammers
The new ebtEDGE app will let SNAP recipients lock cards and block out-of-state purchases as Arkansas shifts to Fidelity Information Services.
- On Thursday, the Arkansas Department of Human Services announced it is switching its SNAP EBT vendor from Conduent to Fidelity Information Services to provide beneficiaries with "better control and fraud prevention measures."
- Department officials detected a "large number of suspicious transactions" earlier this year within the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer program, forcing families to reset their PINs to reactivate compromised cards.
- Division of County Operations Director Mary Franklin said the "ebtEDGE New" app allows users to lock EBT cards, block out-of-state purchases, and monitor real-time balances. The tool helps Arkansans "lock out would-be thieves and protect benefits."
- A system outage will begin at 11 p.m. Saturday, July 25, to facilitate the vendor conversion, with restoration expected Sunday. Beneficiaries can begin linking accounts on Monday, July 27.
- Existing cards will remain functional under the new vendor, though the department plans to issue chip-enabled cards in the future. The Fidelity Information Services contract spans three years with options for up to four annual renewals.
