Arkansas Trustees Order a Sweeping Review to Revive Razorbacks Football
The board said the review will examine competitiveness across Razorback sports and could shape future investment in football resources.
On Friday, the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees unanimously directed System President Jay B. Silveria to lead a comprehensive review of the state of competitiveness of Razorback athletics, with emphasis on improving football resources.
The Razorbacks are currently 1-1 after a 43-10 loss to Utah, following a 2-10 finish last year. Trustees have spent the past year focusing on athletics spending to help make football more competitive.
Football typically serves as a "major revenue generator," Trustee Ed Fryar said. The board previously authorized $5 million annually for a football-specific fund and $3.4 million through offsets and forbearance.
Trustee Kevin Crass said, "It's going to take a collective effort" to achieve the level of success fans desperately want. The resolution aims to identify necessary resources and empower key personnel.
The review will examine factors affecting college football programs nationwide, including revenue sharing, name-image-and-likeness opportunities, staffing, and facilities. The board did not announce a specific timeline for findings.
