Arizona Creates Committee to Discuss DEI Language in Schools

Arizona officials aim to revise teaching standards to comply with federal Executive Order 14151 and protect $866 million in education funding, with a full review planned by September 2026.

The Arizona State Board of Education voted to form a committee to remove or change diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) language from classroom teaching standards. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne says the move is needed to protect hundreds of millions in federal funding under a Trump executive order. Educators and advocates warn it’s “educational malpractice” that could erase students’ identities and support systems.
