Argentina has been the International Monetary Fund’s most loyal client for decades. Under President Javier Milei’s ‘chainsaw policy,’ that picture is shifting: inflation fell from a towering 290 percent to 33 percent in June. Yet the average Argentinian is noticing little of this, according to BNR’s resident economist Han de Jong. Companies are forced to close their doors, and forty percent of the population lives below the poverty line.
