ARD and ZDF have agreed to merge their divisional channels, following the reform state treaty which entered into force in December.

ARD and ZDF have decided which channels are to be saved at the turn of the year. The result suggests which sensitivities have played a role – and is still a reason for cautious optimism.
With new common channels ARD and ZDF want to bundle offers and appeal to more viewers. Three linear channels are set up, including tagesschau24. From January 2027, digital offers are to be strengthened.
The ARD dispenses with the previous offers One, Tagesschau24 and ARD-Alpha.
In autumn, the Reform State Treaty was adopted, now public broadcasting is implementing the requirements. These stations will be shut down or bundled from 2027.
