AirPods Are Finally Getting a Custom EQ to Tune the Listening Experience
Apple says the feature will let users adjust frequency bands in real time with a live waveform, after years of requests for more control.
Apple announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference that a customizable equalizer is coming to the AirPods Max 2, AirPods Pro 3, and AirPods 4 with the public release of iOS 27 this fall.
Previously, AirPods relied exclusively on Apple's Adaptive EQ, a strategy that left some users wanting manual control over their sound profile.
Users can adjust a 3-band equalizer directly from AirPods Settings, a feature that, while limited compared to competitors' 10-band versions, is a "step in the right direction."
Expanded GymKit functionality allows AirPods Pro 3 users to sync heart rate data through iPhone with compatible cardio equipment, enhancing workout tracking capabilities.
These updates appear limited to the latest devices powered by the H2 chip, excluding earlier hardware like the AirPods Pro 2 and original AirPods Max.
