Apple Intelligence Brings Accessibility Updates Across iPhone, Mac and Vision Pro
Apple said the updates will add on-device AI descriptions, natural-language controls and captions, plus eye-controlled wheelchair support for Vision Pro users.
On Tuesday, Apple unveiled new accessibility features powered by Apple Intelligence, including a Vision Pro tool for eye-controlled power wheelchairs, ahead of Global Accessibility Awareness Day on Thursday.
The new eye-tracking control offers a "responsive input method for compatible alternative drive systems" from Tolt Technologies and LUCI, operating without regular calibration across varying lighting conditions.
Apple Intelligence also enables natural language voice control, allowing users to describe onscreen buttons and controls rather than memorizing exact labels. VoiceOver now provides more detailed image descriptions of photographs and personal records.
AI-Generated subtitles will automatically transcribe spoken audio in personal videos, while Accessibility Reader now handles complex materials like scientific articles with multiple columns and tables.
"The option to control my power wheelchair on my own is gold to me," said Pat Dolan, founder of GeoALS. These capabilities arrive later this year alongside wider Hikawa Grip availability.
