A nighttime fire in an apartment building in Den Helder injured 11 people, sent six to the hospital, and led authorities to cordon off the area after discovering material described as “asbestos-suspected,” according to Veiligheidsregio Noord-Holland Noord.
Six people were injured overnight Friday night in a fire at a flat on Schoenerstraat in the south of Den Helder. Material suspected of being asbestos was found at the front of the flat, according to the North Holland North Safety Region. The area has been cordoned off as a precaution. An investigation will determine whether the material is indeed asbestos.
