Anurag Kashyap Fails to Appear in 'Anti-Brahmin' Remarks Case Filed by Bajrang Dal, VHP Lawyer; Surat Court Issues Warrant
The court cited his repeated absence after summonses in a case over alleged remarks against the Brahmin community.
On Monday, November 2, the Surat Court issued a bailable warrant against 54-year-old filmmaker Anurag Kashyap after he failed to appear for a scheduled hearing regarding alleged offensive remarks against the Brahmin community.
The case stems from remarks dated April 16, 2025, where Kashyap posted an "objectionable message on social media that cast a slur upon the entire Brahmin community," prompting the court to register charges under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 192 and 352.
Petitioner Kamlesh Raval argued that Kashyap's posts, including one asking "What have you achieved by being a Brahmin?", sought to defame the community. Kashyap repeatedly failed to answer multiple court summonses, including a public newspaper notice.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Chauhan ordered the warrant after Kashyap remained absent, requiring him to furnish bail to secure release. The court scheduled the next hearing for December 24, 2026.
Despite Kashyap's April 2025 Instagram statement where he wrote, "I sincerely apologize to this community to whom I did not want to say this, but wrote it in anger while responding to someone," the legal proceedings initiated by Raval continue forward.
