India to Induct New Shallow-Water Anti-Submarine Craft ‘Mahe’ on Nov 24

The Mahe, with over 80% indigenous content, is India’s first of eight anti-submarine shallow-water craft to enhance littoral warfare and coastal security, officials said.

  • On November 24, the Indian Navy will induct Mahe at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai; Mahe is the lead vessel of the eight Mahe-class ASW SWC built by Cochin Shipyard Limited.
  • Built to counter underwater threats, Mahe will track submarines, perform coastal patrols and safeguard key maritime routes in littoral waters.
  • Equipped with torpedoes and multi‑functional anti‑submarine rockets, Mahe also carries advanced radar and sonar systems and more than 80 per cent indigenous content.
  • The October 23 handover completed builder acceptance, paving the way for commissioning Mahe, which marks the arrival of a new generation of indigenous shallow‑water combatants, a Navy spokesperson said.
  • As part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat push, Mahe showcases domestic shipbuilding advances and represents cutting-edge progress in India's naval ship design, construction and integration.
