Anti-racism rally disrupted by masked group in Glasgow
Police separated the groups as officers investigated hate crimes and kept a significant operation in place to prevent disorder.
On Saturday, thousands of anti-racism campaigners filled Glasgow's Buchanan Street to oppose a small group of far-right protesters, with Police Scotland maintaining a significant operation to separate the factions and ensure public safety.
Tuesday's violent disorder followed reports that masked men targeted individuals 'because of the colour of their skin,' after the unrest was sparked by footage of a knife attack in Belfast on Monday night.
Scottish politicians, including MSP Holly Bruce and MSP Iris Duane, joined the anti-racism demonstration, while a 53-year-old man was arrested for threatening a police officer during the event.
Police Scotland confirmed the protest passed 'without major incident' despite scuffles between groups, as Assistant Chief Constable Alan Waddell stated the force's role remains to facilitate lawful activity and protect communities.
Chants of 'Glasgow united will never be defeated' echoed as thousands aimed to 'reclaim our streets,' with organisers hailing the demonstration as a success despite the small far-right counter-protest.
