Ans Clements (73), a hairdresser in the heart of Amsterdam for 43 years, came up with a self-rotating clothes rack as an alternative to the energy-guzzling tumble dryer. In the meantime, 15,000 SpeedDryers have been sold. But the invention required quite a bit of perseverance. "I thought: we're going to ritually burn it."
