Another Vande Bharat Sleeper to Mumbai via Hubballi likely
The new sleeper service will improve connectivity for North Karnataka and use two trainsets on the Bengaluru-Mumbai route, Vaishnaw said.
On Sunday, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced a second Vande Bharat Sleeper train connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai via Hubballi, improving rail connectivity for North Karnataka.
The new route complements the existing Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper service, which deploys two trainsets and was highlighted during the launch of the region's third Vande Bharat Sleeper train.
India's first indigenous bullet trainset, the B28, is being manufactured at BEML's Bengaluru plant with a design speed of 280 kmph and an operational speed of 250 kmph.
The B28 will undergo two to four months of testing before Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the service, with the prototype expected on tracks by May or June next year.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced seven new bullet train corridors in the 2026-27 Union Budget, signaling the government's commitment to modernizing high-speed rail infrastructure nationwide.
