The far-right MEPs gathered the 72 signatures necessary to trigger a motion of censure against the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. A process initiated by a Romanian far-right elected member, Gheorghe Piperea, a member of the ECR group, the European Conservatives and Reformists.
A Romanian ultra-conservative MEP put forward a motion of censure which has been supported by one tenth of MEPs, but which requires the support of two thirds of the House, which is why it is unlikely that it will succeed.
MEPs will vote on a motion of no confidence in Ursula von der Leyen and her European Commission. EP President Roberta Metsola told MEP faction leaders today, DPA reports. MEPs are expected to vote next week at a plenary session in Strasbourg. However, the chances of a vote of no confidence are minimal, writes Brussels-based website Politico.
The EU Commission is accused of intransparency and mismanagement with regard to the Corona policy. If the application is accepted, the Commission would have to resign in a closed manner. However, such a scenario is considered unlikely.
The European Commission of Ursula von der Leyen must submit to the vote on a motion of censure in the European Parliament. According to information from the German Press Agency, Parliament President Roberta Metsola has just informed the group chairmen.
