Annual tree-lighting celebration in Providence returns after virtual pandemic year

The annual holiday tree lighting in downtown Providence was back in person Friday night. The celebrations included musical performances and caroling as the crowd counted down to the lighting of the tree. The festivities then continued across the street, where the Brown University marching band played on the ice rink.

Olympian Nancy Kerrigan participates in Providence tree lighting celebration

The city of Providence lit its Christmas tree Friday evening. Dozens gathered for the annual Tree Lighting ceremony. As the tree lit up on the steps of City Hall, so too were the spirits of those who got to see it in person, for the first time in two years.
