DeWine Appoints Andy Wilson as Ohio Attorney General, Replacing Yost
Wilson, a former county prosecutor and National Guard member, will oversee the office’s $2.5 billion budget as Yost leaves for Alliance Defending Freedom.
On Monday, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine appointed Public Safety Director Andy Wilson as the state's new attorney general, effective immediately upon Attorney General Dave Yost's departure.
Attorney General Dave Yost will resign effective June 7 to join Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative legal nonprofit, as Vice President of Strategic Research and Innovation.
Wilson, a former Clark County prosecutor, has served as Public Safety Director since December 2022 and gained recognition for his work on the high-profile Pike County massacre trial.
At Monday's press conference, Wilson pledged to "go 100 miles per hour" during his seven-month term and said he will review the mistrial involving former FirstEnergy executives.
Voters will determine the next permanent attorney general in November's election, where Republican Ohio Auditor Keith Faber will face Democrat John Kulewicz.
