Burnham Rules Out Coalition with Greens After ‘Zionism Is Racism’ Motion
Burnham called the Green motion antisemitic and said he cannot support a partnership while the policy remains in place.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Andy Burnham ruled out a partnership with the Green Party, condemning their motion as 'antisemitic' during Prime Minister's Questions and stating Labour will 'have nothing to do with it.'
At their Brighton conference, Green members voted 1,022 to 813 on October 4 to declare 'Zionism is racism' and back a 'single democratic Palestinian state in all of historic Palestine.'
Conservative MP Harriett Baldwin challenged Burnham at PMQs, citing Tory leader Kemi Badenoch's decision to rule out deals with Reform UK and demanding similar clarity on the Greens.
Recent polling puts Labour at 28% and Conservatives at 24%, suggesting the governing party could fall short of a parliamentary majority in any future election.
Burnham stopped short of ruling out all future coalitions, focusing his rejection specifically on the Green partnership while avoiding commitment to any broader coalition position.
