Iceland's President Halla Tomasdottir visited Japan this week, meeting with Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru. The pair agreed to pursue cooperation in a wide range of areas, including security, the economy and technology. The 56-year-old Tomasdottir spoke with NHK about her views on how the country has achieved its reputation as a world leader in gender equality, including the legacy of a seismic event for women's rights almost half a century ago.
