The Spanish government decided to extend the operation of the Almaraz nuclear power plant until June 2030, thus delaying the decommissioning of the two reactors, initially scheduled for 2027 and 2028.
The closing date for the nuclear power plants in the country dates back to 2019, when an agreement was reached to close the seven existing reactors in the neighbouring country at 2035. The postponement of the closure of the Extremadura power plant is lifting this on the plan to "close the doors" of the other reactors.
