The 99942 Apophis asteroid, which will pass just 32,000 kilometers from Earth in April 2029, does not represent a risk of collision with the planet. However, the concern of scientists is in another possible impact: the object may crash into fragments of space debris orbiting the Earth, compromising a rare opportunity to study closely one of the largest asteroids ever observed at that distance.
