An airstrike has killed 25 people near Yemen’s capital, Houthi official says

The Houthi-run Health Ministry said the strikes hit homes and killed mostly women and children as the war’s ceasefire collapsed over summer.

  • On Saturday, airstrikes in the Bani Hushaysh district near Sanaa killed 25 people and wounded 30 others, mostly women and children. The Houthi-run Health Ministry attributed the attack to Saudi Arabia, though there was no immediate comment from the Saudi-backed military.
  • The Iran-aligned Houthi militia and the Saudi-backed military traded blame for the strike. Anees Alasbahi, a Houthi-run Health Ministry spokesman, accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out the strikes in the village of al-Shariya, while the Houthi-controlled Saba agency reported renewed strikes.
  • Aftermath footage from the Houthi-run broadcaster al-Masirah revealed staff carrying casualties into a local hospital. Scenes showed destroyed houses in rubble and dust, as children were treated for injuries including horrific head wounds.
  • Houthi officials reported Thirty people were killed in a market strike one day prior in southern Yemen. Meanwhile, pro-government media reported that Yemeni forces repulsed a Houthi attack on the al-Aqroud front in the contested Taiz province.
  • In recent months, Houthi fighters have stepped up attacks on neighboring Saudi Arabia. Airports and oil facilities in the kingdom have become primary targets for the militia, marking a significant escalation in the conflict involving the Saudi-backed government.
