American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy Awards Beverly L. Davidson, PhD, Outstanding Achievement Award
The society cited her pioneering Huntington’s disease research, viral vector engineering and mentorship of translational scientists.
The American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy honored Beverly L. Davidson, PhD, with the Outstanding Achievement Award at its annual meeting in Boston on Thursday, recognizing her lifetime contributions to gene and cell therapy.
Davidson serves as Director of the Raymond G. Perelman Center for Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics and Chief Scientific Strategy Officer at CHOP, where she leads translational research into inherited brain diseases.
Her foundational discoveries in Huntington disease include engineering AAV variants and pioneering early RNAi development to target neural tissues, advancing research toward potentially disease-modifying therapies.
"Her leadership transformed how the field develops brain-directed genetic medicines," said Susan Furth, Executive Vice President at CHOP, while CEO David Barrett called her influence "lasting" across challenging diseases.
Beyond her research, Davidson mentored scientists now leading independent programs at other institutions and thanked ASGCT for advancing genetic medicines that are "potent, safe, scalable and accessible.
