- On Monday, Dr. Peter Stafford returned to the United States with his wife, Rebekah Stafford, and their four children after recovering from the Bundibugyo Ebola virus, according to Serge, a Pennsylvania-based Christian missions organization.
- The 39-year-old medical missionary contracted the virus in the Democratic Republic last month and was evacuated to a hospital in Berlin on May 20 for treatment.
- While quarantined, Rebekah and their four children remained asymptomatic, and Serge confirmed that other missionaries serving alongside Stafford in the DRC have also been released from monitoring and returned to America.
- "I am feeling well and thankful to be reunited," Stafford said in a statement, expressing gratitude to God for his recovery while asking for continued prayers for those still facing the epidemic.
- The Bundibugyo outbreak has caused 782 confirmed cases and 178 deaths in the DRC, with neighboring Uganda reporting 19 cases and two deaths, according to health ministries.
