American and Syrian forces conduct airstrikes on ISIS weapons storage facilities, US military says

The joint U.S. and Syrian operation destroyed 15 ISIS weapons depots including over 130 mortars and rockets to prevent militant regrouping, CENTCOM said.

  • From November 24 to November 27, U.S. Central Command and Syrian forces identified and destroyed over 130 ISIS weapons storage sites across Rif Damashq using airstrikes and ground detonations.
  • The operation builds on a long campaign against ISIS, which lost territorial control in 2019 but still harbors active cells, with CENTCOM establishing the joint task force in 2014 to support partner forces.
  • The raids removed over 130 mortars and rockets along with assault rifles, machine guns, anti‑tank mines, and materials for improvised explosive devices, while illicit drugs were also destroyed.
  • Admiral Brad Cooper said the raids `ensures gains made against ISIS are lasting`, and U.S. forces will remain vigilant pursuing ISIS remnants.
  • The raids arrive as U.S. policy, including a 180-day Caesar sanctions suspension, and Syrian diplomatic aims remain in play, while officials say ISIS and al-Qaeda-linked remnants continue operating in parts of Syria.
