America 250 vs. Freedom 250: what's the difference?
Freedom250 faces lawsuits and funding scrutiny after lawmakers said two-thirds of $150 million in federal money was redirected to its events.
Over the weekend, President Donald Trump cancelled a concert series celebrating America's 250th anniversary after headliners Bret Michaels, Martina McBride, and Young withdrew, claiming they were misled about the "divisive" Great American State Fair.
Confusion persists between America250, a bipartisan Congress-formed committee focused on historical events like "America's Block Party," and Freedom250, an outside fundraising arm created by Trump to organize the Great American State Fair.
Lawmakers accuse Freedom250 of "selling" access to Trump for overseas donations; Watchdog organizations filed lawsuits alleging the administration illegally redirected two-thirds of the $150 million federal allocation for the events.
America250 Chair Rosie Rios clarified her organization's purpose, stating the role of engaging "all 350 million Americans is very important to us, and that means no political ideology whatsoever."
Despite concert cancellations, Freedom250 continues planning events including the Patriot Games National Competition, a White House UFC fight, and an IndyCar race, with artists Vanilla Ice and Flo Rida potentially still performing.
