America 250: Students in grades K–8 invited to enter Bookmark Design Challenge
The challenge invites K-8 students nationwide to submit original bookmarks by March 31, 2026, with winners featured at national events and invited to Washington, DC.
- Reported from Orlando, Second Lady Usha Vance and the NEA invited K–8 students to design bookmarks celebrating America's 250th, said the Office of the Second Lady.
- To honor the 250th anniversary, entrants may celebrate the Declaration of Independence through art exploring history, unity, community, creativity, hopes for the future, and use artistic materials.
- To enter, submissions must be from students across the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five territories, submitted at arts.gov/bookmarks before Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. ET, with three national winners invited to Washington, DC in summer 2026.
- Winning designs will be featured this year at the Great American State Fair and the Second Lady’s 2026 Summer Reading Challenge, while winning students and their parent or guardian gain national visibility and visit Washington, DC in summer 2026.
- The Office of the Second Lady said students should submit original, hand-drawn bookmarks through arts.gov/bookmarks and direct questions to bookmarks@arts.gov.
