As we celebrate America 250!, the Old Hickory Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, wants to take a moment to spotlight American Patriots who sacrificed their lives and fortunes for our Independence.

America 250: Colonists assert their loyalty as well as their rights

As we celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States, the Gregory Times-Advocate is featuring a column periodically to recount key events and people that led to our country’s independence. The last installation (March 11, 2026) left off with the formation of the Stamp Act Congress in response to the Stamp Act, Britain’s tax that forced colonists to use special stamped paper for many printing needs.
