Amazon unveils new AI warehouse robot in $12 billion Europe push
- On Thursday, Amazon unveiled its next-generation Proteus robot at the "Delivering the Future" event in Dartford, England, as part of a $11.6 billion investment to modernize its European fulfilment network.
- The investment push will also upgrade warehouse capacity and support 25,000 new fulfilment jobs across Europe, where Amazon already supports more than 1.5 million jobs overall.
- Amazon Robotics Vice President Scott Dresser described the new robot's plain-language interface, stating, "You tell it what needs to be done. It figures out the priority, the route, the timing."
- Deployment of the upgraded Proteus is planned for the first half of 2027 alongside STARK and Vulcan robots, which Amazon is expanding across Europe to accelerate deliveries.
- Amazon is also opening more than 25 sub-same-day delivery sites across Europe this year and will launch its next-generation Alexa+ assistant in 10 additional countries by 2027.
