Amal Clooney Evokes Elizabeth Taylor's 'Cleopatra'
The archival fall 2007 gown was previously worn by Cameron Diaz and later sold for $114,000 at Sotheby’s, sources said.
On Monday, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney attended the King's Trust 50th Anniversary Celebration at London's Royal Albert Hall in a gold sequined Alexander McQueen gown, arriving alongside husband George Clooney.
The archival garment comes from Lee Alexander McQueen's "In Memory of Elizabeth Howe" fall 2007 collection, which honored the designer's ancestors involved in the Salem witch trials; Cameron Diaz wore it to a 2007 Tokyo premiere.
Clooney styled the cap-sleeve, V-neck dress with pointy-toe pumps, a bracelet, earrings, and a matching metallic clutch, featuring intricate gold sequins arranged in a leaf-like column silhouette.
Founded by King Charles III in 1976, the King's Trust supports young people ages 11 to 30 across Britain and globally to build confidence and gain employment training.
Actress Lily Collins also arrived in a gold Carolina Herrera gown, reflecting a red-carpet trend toward metallic fashion and creating what media described as a "gold gown battle" on the Royal Albert Hall staircase.
