The gastric balloon from the start-up Allurion, several thousand copies of which are implanted each year, has just been withdrawn from the market by the French health authorities
Health authorities in France have called for the immediate withdrawal from the French market of the anti-obesity gastric balloon from start-up Allurion, which promises to help lose weight without surgery but which risks causing serious complications, AFP quoted by Agerpres wrote.
The uncertain effectiveness and the undesirable effects of this device aimed at promoting weight loss have led the French health authorities to suspend its marketing.
While the ANSM had already warned about the side effects of the Allurion gastric balloon in July, the health authority has asked for the immediate withdrawal of the device from the market.
At the beginning of July, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency issued a safety alert for patients using these gastric balloons.
