(+) Algae Spreads — Lost 30 Tons of Fish

The waters off the coast of the central and northern Adriatic were hit by a massive algal bloom in early May. The algae bloom, which turned the seawater green, is likely the result of higher-than-average sea temperatures and recent heavy rainfall that increased river runoff into the sea, the European Union's Copernicus space-based observation program said. A growing body of research links the intensity of the bloom to climate change.

The algae has taken over the nearby holding pens at Salaks' slaughterhouse in Rotvika, causing massive mortality among the salmon ready for slaughter.
