Aldi Introducing New 62p Rule at 250 UK Supermarkets
Aldi said the new deal will keep charging prices at 40p and 62p per kWh and add chargers at about 20 stores a year.
Aldi is rolling out around 1,200 new electric vehicle chargers across more than 250 UK stores through a partnership with Drax Electric Vehicles, offering shoppers a "quick and convenient way" to charge while shopping.
Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi, said the company is "committed to making sustainable choices more accessible," aiming to support the growing community of EV drivers.
Rapid chargers can replenish batteries in 20- 40 minutes and are "competitively priced" at 62p per kWh, while customers can manage payments via the Charge Assist app or contactless cards.
Currently, more than 30 Aldi stores already feature the new facilities, including locations in Diss, Eastbourne, Durham, and Yate near Bristol, with plans to add chargers at 20 new stores each year.
Adam Hall, energy services director at Drax EVs, noted the expansion demonstrates how amenities are becoming integral to the retail sector, ensuring sites are well-equipped to service EV drivers' needs.
