Protests Against Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump Island Project Grow: Photos
Environmentalists say the €1.4 billion project could damage hundreds of hectares of beaches and habitat for flamingos, seals and sea turtles.
- Thousands of Albanians gathered in Tirana on Thursday, June 4, to protest a luxury resort developed by Affinity Partners, an investment firm linked to Jared Kushner, on an environmentally sensitive Adriatic coast site.
- Environmentalists oppose the $1.6 billion project, which threatens the Vjosa-Narta protected area—a critical wetland habitat for flamingos and over 200 bird species including Dalmatian pelicans.
- "From start to finish there has been a total lack of transparency," said Aleksandr Trajce, executive director of the Protection and Preservation of the Natural Environment in Albania , demanding habitat restoration.
- Prime Minister Edi Rama defended the project on Tuesday, citing $4.6 billion in potential investment and adding there is "absolutely no chance that the investment will stop as long as I am here."
- Kushner previously withdrew from a Trump International Hotel project in Serbia after similar protests last year, and has also announced plans this year for a "New Gaza" development with commercial and residential districts.
